About Dr. Dang

Dr. Marvin Dang is a board-certified sports medicine physician with a passion for optimizing human performance, longevity, and total well-being. He takes a holistic approach to patient care—addressing not just injury or illness, but the physical, mental, and emotional factors that contribute to lasting health. Known for his passion, warmth, and presence, Dr. Dang sees each patient as a partner in a shared journey toward recovery, optimization, and vitality.

Dr. Dang has always had a deep fascination with optimal human performance and recovery. While completing his undergraduate education at UCLA, he studied exercise physiology and conducted research focused on exercise performance. He earned his medical degree from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at NYU Langone Health.

He went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at Drexel University. Prior to returning to Southern California and joining Hoag, he served as a sports medicine physician and clinical assistant professor at NYU Langone Health. Over the past decade, Dr. Dang has provided sports medicine care to elite athletes at the Olympic, professional, and Division I and II levels.

Dr. Dang also has a particular interest in ringside medicine and combat sports. As a member of the Association of Ringside Physicians, he provides medical care for boxers, Muay Thai kickboxers, and mixed martial artists. His experience as both a physician and competitive martial artist—having trained in Muay Thai kickboxing and boxing, in addition to being a current Brazilian Jiujitsu brown belt—informs his understanding of movement, injury recovery, and peak performance.

Dr. Dang has special interests in musculoskeletal ultrasound, regenerative medicine, integrative medicine, and helping patients recover from injury while building habits that support optimal performance and long-term health. He incorporates principles from his sports medicine and family medicine training together with his exercise physiology and sports background to develop comprehensive, holistic treatment plans tailored to his patients’ lifestyle and healthcare goals.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Dang stays active and continues to participate in Brazilian Jiujitsu, weightlifting, CrossFit, cycling, and hiking. He believes that movement is not just physical; it’s meditative, grounding, and essential to a healthy life. Whether he’s caring for an athlete or someone simply striving to move more comfortably, Dr. Dang’s goal is to help every patient feel informed, supported, and empowered.

Dr. Dang is proud to be part of Hoag and looks forward to partnering with you in your pursuit of your best health and best life.
